The PennEast pipeline is a natural gas pipeline proposed by the PennEast Pipeline Company, LLC. The PennEast Pipeline Company, LLC., is a limited liability corporation formed by AGL Resources, NJR Pipeline Company, PSEG Power; SJI Midstream, Spectra Energy Partners and UGI Energy Services. ("PennEast"). The proposed line is to be a 118-mile project of primarily 36-inch pipeline. The pipeline will traverse 4 counties in the eastern Pennsylvania.
Below is information related to DEP's review of the permit applications as well as the approved 401 Water Quality Certification. Additional materials will be added to the site as the Department continues with its review of the permit applications.

On January 3, 2022, DEP sent a letter to PennEast Pipeline Company, LLC, regarding their December 22, 2021 letter, requesting the withdraw/revocation of their applications and authorizations.
On December 22, 2021, DEP received a letter from PennEast to cease all further development of the project and withdraw various permit applications associated with the project.

On September 29, 2020, DEP received updated application materials from PennEast Pipeline Company, LLC, to create a phased project.
On July 2, July 14, and July 21, 2020, DEP received updated application materials from PennEast Pipeline Company, LLC, in response to the technical deficiency letters that were sent on May 14, 2020.
On May 14, 2020, DEP sent technical deficiency letters to PennEast Pipeline Company, LLC.
On March 30, 2020, DEP received updated application materials from PennEast Pipeline Company, LLC, regarding constructing a new metering and regulating (M&R) station.
On January 30, 2020, DEP received a letter from PennEast Pipeline Company, LLC, regarding proposed changes to include constructing the project in two stages and constructing a new metering and regulating (M&R) station.
On October 30, 2019, DEP received updated application materials from PennEast Pipeline Company, LLC, in response to the technical deficiency letters that were sent on July 3, 2019. PennEast Pipeline Company, LLC, has both Chapter 102, Erosion and Sediment Control Permit Application and Chapter 105, Water Obstruction and Encroachment Permit Applications with the Department.
On August 29, 2019, DEP granted a time extension to PennEast Pipeline Company, LLC, to provide the necessary information to make their application technically adequate.
On August 22, 2019, DEP received a request for an extension to respond to the July 3, 2019 technical deficiency letters for Chapters 102 and 105 from PennEast Pipeline Company, LLC.
On July 3, 2019, DEP sent technical deficiency letters to PennEast Pipeline Company, LLC. These letters outlines technical deficiencies that were found during the technical review of the Chapter 105, Water Obstruction and Encroachment Permits and Chapter 102, Erosion and Sediment Control General Permit.
On January 25, 2019, DEP determined that all Chapter 102 and 105 applications were complete. The following Completeness Notification Letters were sent to PennEast Pipeline Company, LLC.
On December 26, 2018, DEP received updated application material from PennEast Pipeline Company, LLC, in response to the technical deficiency letters that were sent on December 23, 2016.
On June 28, 2018, DEP granted a time extension for PennEast Pipeline to respond to the Incompleteness letters for work in Luzerne, Carbon, Northampton and Bucks Counties.
On June 15, 2018, DEP received a request for an extension from PennEast Pipeline Company, LLC.
On January 2, 2018, DEP granted a time extension for PennEast Pipeline to respond to the Incompleteness letters for work in Luzerne, Carbon, Northampton and Bucks Counties.
On December 27, 2017, DEP received a request for an extension from PennEast Pipeline Company, LLC.
On August 10, 2017, DEP granted the requested extension.
On June 26, 2017, DEP received a request for an extension from PennEast Pipeline Company, LLC. PennEast requested additional response time to the December 23, 2016 incompleteness review letters.
State 401 Water Quality Certification
On February 9, 2016, the Department received an application for a state water quality certification. The request for State 401 Water Quality Certification was published in the
Pennsylvania Bulletin on May 14, 2016, was determined complete on June 29, 2016, and published again in the
Pennsylvania Bulletin on August 27, 2016. Submitted public comments were evaluated by the Department prior to the request being approved. On February 7, 2017, DEP issued a conditional State 401 Water Quality Certification to PennEast. The conditional State 401 Water Quality Certification was published in the
Pennsylvania Bulletin on February 25, 2017.
Chapter 102 and 105 Permit Applications
DEP has sent a series of three incompleteness review letters to the Applicant for its Chapter 105 and Chapter 102 permits. Each of the letters has indicated the applications are not yet considered to be complete by DEP. DEP cannot commence technical review until the applications are complete.
On December 23, 2016, DEP sent a third incompleteness letter to the company following its review of the Applicant's November 18, 2016 response to the DEP September 19, 2016 incompleteness letters.
On September 19, 2016, after the Applicant responded, DEP sent a second series of incompleteness letters.
On April 26, 2016, the first series of incompleteness letters were sent.
