Southwestern Region

  • Community Foundation of Fayette County: The Community Foundation of Fayette County meets twice a year to reward grants to organizations benefitting Fayette County in the areas of arts/culture, community development, historic preservation, education, environmental awareness, health, human services, tourist initiatives, and public benefit.   • Community Foundation of Westmoreland County: This foundation supports organizations working to improve the quality of life in Westmoreland County in the areas of environment, health and wellness, basic needs, education, economy, arts and culture, and neighborhood and community development.   • Dominion Foundation: Grants are distributed to organizations serving in areas where Dominion operates. The focus of Dominion grants are on food banks, homeless shelters, land preservation, science/technology/engineering/math education, and neighborhood development. Preference is given to projects focused on energy efficiency. Click here for more information.
  • The Eberly Foundation: This foundation awards grants in Pennsylvania, Oklahoma and West Virginia for projects focused on education, local economic development and the arts. Call 724-438-3789 for more information.
  • Eden Hall Foundation: Seeking to better the lives of community members in Pittsburgh and western Pennsylvania, this foundation provides grants for organizations focused on addressing community needs. Grant awards are primarily offered to projects dealing with education, social welfare, women's issues, needs of poor and disadvantaged communities, and improving the health of community members.   • An Environmental Trust Inc.: Since 2002, this foundation has supported organizations addressing environmental and energy issues in New England. Grants range from $4,000-$19,500. For more information, contact 724-225-8655.
  • The Audrey Hillman Family Foundation: Grants ranging $1,000-$25,000 are awarded to organizations for general support. Applications must include a description of the intended project, project objectives, a specific funding request with a detailed spending plan, an annual budget, list of organization directors, a project time schedule, and an IRS tax-exempt document.   • Gailliot Family Foundation: Grants ranging $1,500-$5,000 are rewarded mostly to organizations serving the Pittsburgh area. For more information, call 412-521-2570.
  • Howard Heinz Endowment: With an annual fund of $60 million, grants are rewarded to organizations serving in southwestern Pennsylvania in the areas of arts and culture, children and youth, strengthening families, economic opportunities, education, and the environment.   • Roy A Hunt Foundation: This foundation provides grants for environmental initiatives, community development initiatives, and youth violence prevention initiatives. The annual fund is approximately $3 million. For more information, click here.
  • Laurel Foundation: Since its establishment in 1951, the Laurel Foundation has offered grant opportunities for organizations in Pittsburgh and southwestern Pennsylvania in the areas of arts and culture, environmental conservation, vocational education, and community development.   • Katherine Mabis McKenna Foundation: Grants ranging $1,000-$565,000 are limited mostly to Westmoreland County. For more information, call 724-537-6900.
  • Richard King Mellon Family Foundation: For over 60 years, the Richard King Mellon Foundation has served southwestern Pennsylvania, primarily in economic development, environmental conservation, education, and human services. For more information, click here.
  • The Pittsburgh Foundation: Grants are restricted to Pittsburgh and Allegheny Counties for organizations focused on families/youth/children, economic and community development, the environment, education, arts and culture, health, and special needs populations. For more information, click here.
  • PPG Industries Foundation: Grants are rewarded for operating support, capital projects or special projects to organizations operating in areas where PPG Industries operates. To access an application or for more information, click here.
  • Randall Charity Foundation: Grants ranging $1,000-$40,000 are rewarded on an annual basis to organizations primarily focused on the environment, arts and education. For more information, call 724-799-8680.
  • Scaife Family Foundation: This foundation awards grants to organizations working on projects to strengthen families, address community health issues, improve the welfare of women and children, encourage the fair treatment of animals, and show the benefits of human and animal interactions in the Pittsburgh and western Pennsylvania areas.
