Local Waterways Appreciation Week, August 24-31

Governor Tom Wolf has proclaimed August 24-31, 2019, Local Waterways Appreciation Week in Pennsylvania!

Pennsylvania has approximately 85,000 miles of streams and rivers, connecting over 700,000 acres of lakes, bays, and wetlands. Our waters are a big part of what makes Pennsylvania the place we love to live, providing our drinking water, offering treasured recreation experiences, supporting our farms and businesses, growing our forests.

Take an opportunity the week of Aug. 24-31 to show your appreciation for your favorite local waterway, whether it’s the stream in your neighborhood or Lake Erie or any of our mighty rivers, such as the Allegheny, Susquehanna, Delaware, or others.

"In special recognition of the vital role our lakes, rivers, and local waterways play in our environment and the well-being of our state, I, Tom Wolf, Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, do hereby proclaim August 24-31, 2019 as Local Waterways Appreciation Week. I encourage all citizens and communities to actively participate in the protection and preservation of our local waterways."
