What is Stay Out - Stay Alive?

Stay Out-Stay Alive is a program that warns people about the dangers of active and abandoned mines. Each year in America, dozens of people are killed while exploring, swimming or playing in mines. More people die in abandoned mines in Pennsylvania than in any other state.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection partners with the US Mine Safety and Health Administration, other states and the mining industry, to promote the Stay Out-Stay Alive program. DEP visits schools and community groups, and works with property owners and police to keep people away from these dangerous sites.
