Creating Community Assets: Working with What You Have

The call for presentations is open for the 2018 Pennsylvania Brownfields Conference. This year’s conference is being held on October 1-3, 2018 at the Sands Bethlehem in Lehigh Valley and the theme is Creating Community Assets: Working with What You Have. We seek presentations with timely and informative content on a wide range of topics involved in bringing a brownfield back to successful reuse for a program that is forward thinking with “what’s next” for the brownfields industry. Abstracts are due no later than April 30, 2018. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection hosts the conference in partnership with the Engineers’ Society of Western Pennsylvania. Learn how the Arts are being used to spark brownfield redevelopment in the Lehigh Valley. We will meet at the Bridgeworks Enterprise Center in Allentown and depart via bus for tours of the ArtsQuest SteelStacks facility in Bethlehem, the Easton Silk Mill in Easton, and the Bridgeworks Enterprise Center (former Mack Truck) facility in Allentown. Along the way we will celebrate the successes of these projects and inspire attendees to leverage the Arts to redevelop brownfield sites. The event will include an interactive discussion with the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Commission, the PADEP, the USEPA, NJIT TAB, and others, followed by a networking reception at the Bridgeworks facility.

Now in its 9th year, the Brownfield Coalition of the Northeast (BCONE) will be hosting the Northeast Sustainable Communities Workshop (NSCW) 2018, at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) in Newark, New Jersey, on May 23, 2018. The conference brings together experts and attendees to discuss the most current and state of the art approaches and strategies that you probably will not hear anywhere else The NSCW's goal is to break new ground, offer new ideas, and posit new concepts on the topics of sustainability, collaboration and leverage, contamination, resiliency, brownfields, technology, and their impact on community revitalization. Our past events have been attended by representatives from government, higher education, professional organizations, and laboratories, as well as attorneys, developers, contractors, and consultants.

The Intro Public-Private Partnership (P3) Finance Course examines this emerging development finance model with a focus on how development finance agencies can adopt P3 principles to address a variety of projects. This course will cover basic P3 concepts, key players involved in transactions, asset valuation, contract negotiation, risk assessment, revenue stream development, and feasibility analysis. In addition, several P3 projects from across the country will be presented, and P3 experts will analyze the successful elements in each deal.
