Tri-County Landfill
Background
Tri-County Landfill Inc. has submitted a permit application for the construction and operation of a municipal waste landfill (Landfill) in Liberty and Pine Townships, Mercer County. Tri-County previously operated a landfill at this location that accepted waste between 1950 and 1990. It has been inactive since 1990. The permit will allow Tri-County to develop and operate new waste disposal areas within the 99-acre permit boundary of the old landfill. Waste in the unlined area of the old landfill would be excavated and relocated onto new lined disposal cells.

On October 16, 2019 and April 15, 2021, public hearings were held where members of the public were permitted to comment on the application. 25 Pa Code § 271.143(c) requires the Department to prepare a summary of the written and oral comments submitted during and following the hearing. *
* 92a.86 requires the Department to address and document comments received during the draft NPDES permit comment period, and to make available for public review.
